Your Monthly Horoscope​
for April

Welcome to April 2020, Taurus. Dare I say ‘welcome’ by the way? Yet, you will get through this enormous year of financial change, just as you get through everything else. The trick now is to lose the famous stubborn qualities of Taurus the bull, though. I am sure you know how bulls dig their heels in and put their heads down. Do not be that bull. If ever there was a time to become flexible, open to change and adaptive, April is it.

Let’s talk about the New Moon in Taurus, your own sign, this month, set for 23rd April. I’ll refer to my book 2020 Vision (Penguin) here.

The Moon automatically sets up situations where someone gives, and someone (or something) else takes. It can be a tender, emotional and instructive time if everyone gets it right, but if the demands are too much, or the ‘giver’ is going overboard, the Moon’s emotional pull may need to be monitored and managed. We’re talking about your image here. Your role, appearance, reputation and title. Your shop window or storefront. How you are seen and appear to the world.

At this time, the Sun and Moon come together and operate as a team. This is an extremely good time to begin new plans for your image or reputation, role, title or look – because what you organise now will faithfully meet the needs of your left brain and right brain, at the same time! Consequently, you can charge ahead without any of the mixed feelings, contradictions or inner conflicts that can get in the way of progress at other times.

You’ll feel ‘together’ in a way that’s quite unusual, when a New Moon arrives – total focus and certainty is now easy to achieve. As you not only have the New Moon but also Uranus (revolutionary, radical change) in this same chart zone – image – you can expect April and May in general to be about a relaunch.

Independence is the key word for Uranus. So you may find freedom from (insert something here, that restricts or confines you) or perhaps freedom with (again, insert a particular organisation, individual or situation) as you go through the month.

Mercury will eventually move into Taurus, your own sign, too, making the April-May season one which is all about you, you, you.

This is a right-brain cycle when you will use logic and rational thinking to make sense of the situations and people which Mercury presents you with. Taurus, the most intelligent way to manage your image now is by balancing words and ideas, with irrational feelings and moods. Try to give equal weight to your logic and your sixth sense now.

Statements are fine, but what about the message coming from your solar plexus? During this cycle you will also need to focus on your way with the written and spoken word, as the arrival of Mercury in Taurus, at around the same time that you are dealing with Uranus and a New Moon in Taurus, suggests a lot of self-talk. You may even find yourself becoming the mouthpiece or spokesperson for something/someone as May appears. You are the product, or you are the image/the branded message.

Even if it’s as late as April 27th, 2020, when you’ll first really start to feel this new Mercury in Taurus cycle, you’ll be preparing for it all month and really diving into this new (heavy email, heavy Twitter, heavy talk) phase in May itself.

Mercury in Taurus is about your ability to make a lot of connections very quickly. This cycle will also speed you up! It’s a restless, extremely busy time when you’ll be charged like an electric car. This mention of electricity brings me to Uranus, which is so very obviously in Taurus now. Uranus has long been associated with electrical storms, lightning and all that is wired, connected and switched on.

Taurus, you are an earth sign. Ground yourself. Uranus in your own sign can feel as if you are being zapped. Take rest breaks, when you can, and learn to settle on who and what really matters, before you move on again. Mercury brings a butterfly effect with it, but at this time, you will be the butterfly. This can make you scatty and unfocussed. Pit stops are required. Most of all in this cycle, remember that your mind is fine, but your heart and soul count too.

One welcome change is the chance to move ahead with groups and friends. February and March were all over the place, because you were living with Mercury Retrograde. You had this famous cycle in your zone of collaboration, co-operation, community and people power. This is commonly about charities or sports teams. You also had it with your tribe of friends as a whole.

As I mention in my book, three times a year, for about three weeks, Mercury appears to move backwards. It’s retrograde then, and everything it rules, from communication, to business – and travel – goes backwards too. It has a shadow period, at the very start and end of the cycle.

I see a lot of misinformation about Mercury Retrograde on Google. Please know that it starts a lot earlier and ends a lot later than some astrologers will tell you. In fact, you had this cycle since February and it’s only the end of March that finished it off.

It wasn’t just friends and groups. It was also your career, unpaid work or university/college life, as Mercury went through not just one zone of your chart, but two! So let’s see what you went through and then we’ll talk about how to fix it in April. Here is what happens on Mercury Retrograde:

• Issues are picked up, then put down. People change their minds. They’re too late – or much too early – and sometimes they don’t turn up at all. Purchases are taken back. Connections are made, then lost. Commonly, the atmosphere at this time is busy and lively, but also shambolic.
• Possessions are lost or stolen. Prices are not fixed. Electronic goods frequently do not work – and there are no guarantees for People recycle ideas, issues, plans and deals to see what will happen – but more often than not, what takes place leaves them stuck exactly where they were before!
• There is typically a vast amount of analysis, discussion, gossip, sales talk – and loose talk – when this planet is retrograde. Some of it will stick, and some of it will not. Some of it is worth relying on, and some of it will be absolute rubbish.

Astrologers advise against signing anything important at this time, because what appears to be gospel truth, or a done deal, could turn out to be anything but. It is wise to avoid negotiations during Mercury retrograde cycles because you may change your mind later or find you could have swung a better deal somewhere else. If you can ask for time to think and ponder now, it’s probably a good idea. Once this cycle is over, you will be in a better position to make sense of what has been ‘decided’ or under so much discussion.

So that takes us too April. Deep breath, Taurus. With Mercury now finally sorting himself out, you must attend to the situation with friends and groups. And then look, so seriously, at your career, your unpaid work or university/college life. We’ll talk more about that in May, but you obviously have a crossroads decision to make about the long-term future.

You will be thrilled at what 2021 delivers and offers, but just how good it’s going to be, depends on how slowly, seriously and carefully you proceed with long-term decisions now.
