Capricorn and Cancer Karma 2019-2020 – Part One
This is Part One of a Two-part series.
If you have Capricorn and/or Cancer planets, asteroids, points or angles in your personal birth chart – or even if you are just a Capricorn or Cancer person – take heart. It is not your imagination. You really are going through the most difficult and dramatic cycles with Capricorn weather (work, career) and Cancer weather (home, family) in over 240 years.
In this feature, I’ll look at when it started and why it’s here as well as who and what is affected. I’ll also look at how to deal with it, and what history tells us about managing it. Astrology is history.
You’ve Been Here Before
The Cancer-Capricorn climate is similar to life as it was from May 12th, 1944 to December 3rd, 1945, when the North Node was in Cancer and the South Node was in Capricorn.
The Nodes repeat every 19 years, so the same astrological weather can be found between December 24th, 1962 and August 25th, 1964. September 25th, 1981 and March 16th, 1983. April 10th, 2000 and October 13th, 2001. This current cycle began on November 7th, 2018 and will not end until May 5th, 2020.
The North Node and South Node Go Backwards
What is unusual about the North Node and South Node is that they go backwards through the 12 signs of the zodiac, not forwards (as the planets and asteroids do). This is why they are associated with past lives and karma. It is also why astrologers like me know that it is very hard to do or say anything, that will have an effect on family, property, home town or homeland, career or success – when we are pulled into the North Node in Cancer/South Node in Capricorn cycle.
Oh, you can try. We’re all trying! Yet our hands are tied by larger forces at work. Some things are bigger than our capacity to decide. Some things have to be worked out from 2000-2001 or further back, and the karma must be completed before we can move on. This is exactly what is taking place during 2019-2020.
Were You Born with the Nodes in Cancer-Capricorn?
If you were actually born with the North Node in Cancer and South Node in Capricorn, then this is personal. You incarnated to deal with issues about home versus the council, or the government, or big business. The banks, perhaps, versus your need to have your own apartment or house. Your own family versus your role or position. Your country.
A classic Cancer-Capricorn split can be shown by the global battle to preserve the environment, nature, trees, clean air and water (our home) against the greed of property developers who want high-rise apartments, concrete and money.
Cancer is the earth – our home – and Capricorn is the man in the suit and tie, with the cell phone glued to his ear.
Homeland and Family – Ambition and Work
Even if you do not have the Nodes in Cancer-Capricorn you will certainly be affected by entire generations born, who do. They also incarnated to deal with the opposite question. The ambition to ‘make it’ versus the pull of family, hometown and local area or nation. The Nodes work both ways.
If you’ve been wondering why there are so many heavy, emotional questions about migrants and refugees, borders and immigration, residency and nationality – since 2018 – you have your answer. Your Factors in Capricorn in the Tenth House
This is about your unpaid work, career, or university/college degree. Instead of clashing/opposing, the travelling Capricorn factors are conjunct: next too. Triggering! This is still a challenge for you, ongoing, with your job situation, course or voluntary role and, in a moment, I’ll look at how to handle the triple transit of Pluto, Saturn and the South Node. For now, look at the degrees (numbers) of your Capricorn placements. If they also fall at those you see listed month by month, above, then those particular periods are crossroads.
How to Handle Saturn
Don’t rush it. Don’t expect fast progress. Don’t look for easy answers or shortcuts. Ask older or more experienced people. Consult the experts. Be patient. Don’t watch the clock or calendar just slog through. Learn as you go – this is about instruction!
How to Handle the South Node
Go back 19 years, and 19 years before that – and maybe 19 years before that. The past informs the present. Don’t expect what you say or do, to alter your course – you will be watching other people going through the motions – or large organisations/situations rotate and revolve. Repeat. Repeat. Each time this happens you get a chance to work on yourself on the inside because it’s the only thing you can do! Cultivate a sense of humour. A philosophical approach. Remember you’re not the only person doing this…
How to Handle Pluto
Your fierce and firm willpower will empower you and give you your power back, if you feel other people, organisations or situations are dominating and taking over. Take back your power by using your will.
Your self-control will give you control. Become the master or mistress of your own ship. Sail your own course and take the wheel. Other people, organisations or life itself will control the currents and they may seem too much at times – but you will learn skills that last a lifetime, and find the controls, if you use your self-discipline to master self-control!
What to Remember about 2020
Jupiter (the fixer) is also in Capricorn, so in the year 2020 you are going to see not only the end of the most intense and demanding cycle of your life – in at least one department of your life – but you will also see major repair work, improvement and long overdue overhauls. Jupiter is here to help and will do so completely by the end of 2020.

Watching Brexit: Pluto in Capricorn 550 A.D.
About 550 years after Jesus Christ was born, history tells us that the Germans invaded Great Britain. Italian-Britons (left over from the Roman invasion) and native Britons pushed back. The Germans began calling these people – Welsh.
Capricorn rules the elite at the top. The authorities. The system. Cancer, the opposite sign, rules home and family. Hometown and country. Roots, culture, heritage and history.
Wales and the European Union
In the Cancer-Capricorn weather of 550 AD and again, in 2019-2020, we see the same issues. This cycle returns in 2020 and once again, we will see a huge conflict involving Germany, Italy, Great Britain and Wales. That’s Brexit. That’s the European Union. It’s happened before, but this time – without people waving swords around. Just a major hit on property prices.
This can and does affect the United States, beyond the United Kingdom. It affects Australia, India and beyond. Why? Trade. Just knowing what to expect can help you prepare better for rough weather ahead in January 2020.
The Capricorn-Cancer Climate Since November 2018
The North Node in Cancer (home) and South Node in Capricorn (the authorities) have been moving opposite each other since November 7th, 2018.
They will not break apart until May 5th, 2020. We will also see Mercury, Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter and Ceres in Capricorn in this period. Specifically, 12th January 2020 when we experience something the whole astrological internet will be discussing:

Astrologers don’t have all the answers. I certainly don’t. I am in the Capricorn-Cancer zone along with you. The temperature where I live, in both Britain and Australia, is rising in summer to bring unbearable heat. This is climate emergency as well as a sharp increase in the Capricorn climate.
This is about governments and big business dictating how hot your bedroom is at night, because they don’t act on climate emergency. Capricorn is the politician or C.E.O. and your bedroom is Cancer – your home, household or family.
Yet, here is something we know about the Cancer-Capricorn clashes in the heavens, triggering our charts. We’ve been here before. And we’ve also won.
The Men at the Top
Classically, extreme Capricorn weather gives rise to a tiny elite of world leaders or businessmen who have far too much power – who seem to control everything – right down to the contents of your kitchen cupboards or the temperature of your office. Life does not feel democratic. It feels as if ‘the top people’ (rich and powerful) are running the world and your vote – and mine – means little.
From Bill Gates to Mark Zuckerberg
The CEO of Microsoft. The CEO of Apple. The CEO of Facebook and Instagram. The CEO of Google and Twitter.
Capricorn the zodiac sign is automatically and always opposite Cancer in astrology. So, any time we see extreme Capricorn weather, it pushes against Cancer in the horoscope.
This is why your home life (Cancer) is being affected by corporations and governments (Capricorn) in such an obvious way. Not to mention your local area and country. It comes down to the actual, physical temperature of the air – and the impact of climate emergency on vegetables and fruit. The kitchen.
Your family is affected by Facebook. Mine certainly is. I cannot communicate with some family members there, because I quit years ago – and there is an invisible wall preventing me from seeing their photographs there. Even if they are pictures of me.
Symbolic Repetition of the Past
When the North Node in Cancer and South Node in Capricorn repeat, we see symbolic repetition of the past. Familiar themes return from previous cycles. We are now going through 1944 and 1945 again. The end of the Second World War and the start of family reunions as men came back from the Army, Air Force and Navy to their relatives. The rebuilding of bombed houses and the building of new homes.
I am sure you can see Cancer-Capricorn stories in your family history if you think back to 1944 and 1945. Perhaps you live in a house which was constructed in those years. Then, as now, our actual families were in the hands of a few men. These days you cannot control what your son or daughter does, because he or she is actually under the control of the internet.
In Great Britain, after the vote to leave the European Union, your hometown and homeland are in the hands of the men at the top.
Power, Control and Pluto
Pluto in Capricorn is one of the slow-moving outer planets giving this South Node in Capricorn/North Node in Cancer cycle a particular atmosphere. Pluto is a horoscope symbol of the need for total control and absolute dominance. It was found in 1930 when the Nazis and Fascists were rising in popularity.
Lack of Freedom and Saturn
Saturn in Capricorn is another slow-moving outer planet, giving the period 2019-2020 a particular atmosphere. Saturn is a horoscope symbol of no freedom – nowhere to move – restriction and limitation. We all feel stuck anyway with the repetition of the Cancer-Capricorn Node cycle, but we feel superglued, with Saturn also in Capricorn. If you think life feels tighter, it most certainly is.
When this cycle breaks (and it does so in slow stages, starting in early 2020) we will look back at this period and shake our heads. How did we end up being so controlled?
March 1929 to November 1932
Between March 1929 and November 1932, Saturn was in Capricorn and Pluto was in Cancer. This is similar, though not identical, astro-weather to January 2020.
Let me give you some names from this period. Joseph Stalin. Adolf Hitler. Mussolini. Churchill. Chairman Mao. Capricorn rules the mountain goats who get to the top of the system and will do anything to stay there. We’ve been here!
Do You Have Personal Horoscope Factors at 22 Degrees?
You will be indirectly affected by the news and announcements about Prime Ministers, politicians, corporations, companies, the monarchy and Presidents very close to 12th January 2020.
There will also be news about residency, citizenship, house and apartment prices, property investments, mortgage interest rates, borders, immigration, family allowances, rent and so on.
There will be larger issues about national security and patriotism. The middle of January will have a domino effect on your own life, if you have anything at all at 22 degrees of any zodiac sign.
The Downfall of the Men at the Top
This massive story about the downfall of Presidents, Prime Ministers, Royalty and so many men in C.E.O. positions continues from January 12th to January 13th, 2020. The system or establishment worldwide is male, so this will be about men, rather than women, crashing from the top. We would also expect the institutions themselves – political, business, royal – to come down.
Pluto always rules a downfall, demotion, departure and total reorganisation. Saturn always brings hard karma. Ceres always creates forced compromise between countries. Pluto people want absolute power, control and dominance. Yet, in a Pluto cycle, they always crash out, down or sideways.

A deep change in the balance of power will result in a sweeping compromise and new order at the top of power, big business and politics around the world on January 12th-13th and perhaps as late as January 14th, depending on your time zone. It will be grim. It will also seem fated – unavoidable and inevitable. It is also necessary if we are to see a new global system in the year 2021.
I hope you can see how the elite leadership (the small but powerful handful of men at the top) of the end of the 1920s and start of the 1930s did not last either. It gave way to people power. That is where we are going.
Which Countries are Affected Most?

When Countries Have Different Horoscopes
A nation like the United Kingdom has been through thousands of years of rebuilding and change. I recently visited Roman ruins in Dover, which mark a time when short Italians in sandals ran the world. Great Britain takes her name from the Roman word for the country – Britannia.
My point is, if you live in a country (especially China, which has so many preserved historic structures) which still looks a little, as it did centuries ago – then its old horoscope, for an earlier constitution or foundation – still works. These days we also work with an 1801 astrological chart for the United Kingdom which reflects the Act of Union. Soon, we will be working with a Brexit-dated horoscope for the country as she is born one more time.
In so many old horoscopes for Europe, China and the United States of America – in all their forms – we are seeing massive crisis and change on January 12th and 13th 2020. You are being given advance notice of this by astrology, some six months before it happens, so you can be aware.

I have 22 degrees in Taurus. What should I be cautious about, and more importantly what Karma factors should I lookout for payback or receive?

Aesculapia in the horoscope reveals how you resurrect, revive and resuscitate your finances, charity, house, valuables, possessions, apartment. You may bring back to life used goods, for example, for resale – or you may be a financial ‘saviour’ for people who have given up on their money, property, business. The trines to this in your Second House now through 2020 suggest you will bring back some aspect of your money, property, investments, company – from the point of no return – just when you or others had assumed it was dead and buried, it comes back to life again.
Thank you again for all the insight, from what I can see the only factors I have in Capricorn/Cancer are effected Aug-October of 2019 then again February-May of 2020. I just don’t fully understand the significance. Can you please help by telling me what I can expect?
It’s not such a big deal for you, as your chart isn’t strongly Cancer-Capricorn. Yet the people around you will be affected, as you see those close to you making big decisions about work and home. They may for example need quite a lot of money to attend to home repairs, or renovations, so they can invest in their home as a rental. This means work becomes an issue, because it doesn’t bring enough money in, so there may need to be a second job or even a new job, to pay for the home – which means less time at home – and more time at work! It’s really about that kind of stress. You will need to support and help someone dealing with this or a similar conundrum. There is also a classic outcome with this kind of weather, where in order to make it in the big city, someone must leave family and home far behind. Again, you would need to lend your support. We also see family firms or family-run businesses who count on the sons and daughters to keep going, pressuring them to take up a role when a family member departs. That is another classic Cancer-Capricorn conflict you may have to assist with.
It’s very interesting this karmic thing. Mum was born in 1944, married Dad 19 years later in 1964, I moved out of mums in 1982 and I had a baby 2001. Very much 19 years (or thereabouts) cycles. What does this one have in store I wonder?
The 19 year Node cycle is usually proof of past life connections and your 2001 baby may have been your mother in a previous life. You usually know what the karmic ‘deal’ is on the child’s 19th birthday and it is frequently about money. Sometimes another kind of debt/credit – emotional.

The Capricorn-Cancer weather until May 2020 is essentially about you realising that in order to be hugely successful you must figure out what your home territory or home market is – or where the best home for your abilities actually is. Capricorn is ambitious and wants the world but Cancer reminds you that home is where things are more easily achieved. You may notice, for example, that the opportunities for your career are better in your home town or homeland. Of course it depends on where you think home actually is. This puzzle keeps you busy until May 2020 then you make your ultimate final decision. You are chewing through a certain amount of past life karma here as you have emigrated or travelled between two countries in particular many times over. I had a similar question from a reader who had been a convict shipped from England to Australia in the 18th century, then an Australian migrant to Britain in the 19th century, then back to the same route in this lifetime!

There are lot of elements I am dealing with at work. I am looking for a mentor, a different pathway, to charities, to leadership. I have not received any clarity or support yet. All I am getting is politics and drama, not to mention, back stabbing by people in power who only want success for themselves. This prevents me from being focused, and sorting out my own life. Changing companies might not help because it could happen in another company. I want to learn how to cope with this and still find that golden path in career that suits me.
How can I do this ? What should I watch out for ? Does my birth chart show where is my relief ?
You are having a classic Capricorn weather experience in your company, with backstabbing by employers, senior or high-ranking people and other authority figures at work. I am sorry about that, but you are also not alone – we are living through Capricorn climate change and it is sweeping across your Tenth House. The good news is, this does get better. When Jupiter changes signs in December, he will conjunct your Neptune, Bacchus and then your IC in that order. Assuming your birth time is right the IC is the last to go. The year 2020 will make up for so much that has happened, as you will be successful in your own way, in your own time and place. You will draw on many years of experience, and your own talents and abilities, but apply them in a new way. This may be within that organisation – or actually a new one. Try to set aside people and their issues and concentrate on the goals and projects you know are waiting for you and make sure you create the time and space in your life to achieve them. Capricorn weather is also about drawing on where you have come from – who you were – and what you know. It’s time, eventually, to call that in. There may be reshuffles, mergers or even closures by January 2020 affecting your current industry or business. One of the great truths about Capricorn weather is that people who do the wrong thing by others – tend to find themselves out in the cold later.

Last Oct 2018, my marriage came to end. I grieved for a long time, sometimes I still do. I have realised my learnings from the situation. But cannot fix it, because not everything is in my control. It is a loss.

I am sorry your marriage ended last year – you are in the kind of cycle when it was about your status, as much as the actual relationship, the other person and your old life. If your birth time is right, then your place in the world was always tied to the home (MC Cancer) and losing that role has been just as devastating as the actual emotional loss. You are no doubt aware that Diana in Scorpio in the Eighth House means that you are an independent person when it comes to joint finances and find it difficult to ‘merge’ over a mortgage (for example) or the day-to-day finances involved in a marriage. The good news is, in time, this does work out for you. In fact, eventually you will find a new arrangement where you can have your space and freedom, financially (or with a home) but still have a lover. At the moment you are in the repair and recovery cycle. Go easy on yourself this weekend.
Capricorn vs Cancer couldn’t have been more on display than at the UN this week when Trump walked past and ignored Greta Thiunberg. This is all so exciting seeing the establishment starting to crack.
Capricorn was certainly Donald Trump (the goat at the top of the mountain). Cancer was Greta saying ‘the house is on fire’ as she correctly identifies our earth as our home. This cycle, which is so intense, ends May 2020.
